Pokémon x Changi Airport & Jewel: 30th Anniversary Free Pikachu Hunt with Parade, Photo Spots & Stamp Rally

pokemon changi

Walk into Changi Airport right now and a life-sized Charizard is just standing there. Our boys went nuts. Then they spotted the Pikachus, and then more Pikachus, and suddenly we were not there to shop or walk around the malls, we were on a Pokémon hunt.

Funseekers’ Verdict: Free, easy to reach, and the kids get to run around hunting Pokémon in real life. The big weekend is 7 and 8 November, so plan that one properly. Go early for the photos.

Photo Spots & Life-Sized Pokémon Everywhere

The main photo area is at Jewel Forest Valley and Terminal 1 Arrival Hall. Changi Airport and Jewel have turned into a Pokémon arena for Pokémon’s 30th anniversary, and our boys treated it like a proper Pokémon hunt.

The big hit was the life-sized Charizard. We also caught Charmander, Squirtle and all the Eevee evolutions, and there were so many Pikachus the boys gave up counting. Lots of the OG Pokémon are around, so kids who grew up on the old ones (or whose parents did) will find their favourites.

There are more surprises at the other terminals too, so don’t stop at the first spot. Get your phone camera ready, because you will be taking a lot of pictures.

Pokémon GO Stamp Rally – Catch the Blue Pikachu

If your kids play Pokémon GO, this is the main event. Singapore is one of five Asia-Pacific cities (with Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, Manila and Bangkok) getting its own region-specific Pikachu, and ours wears blue.

Visit the designated Pokéstops at Jewel and Changi Airport between 10am and 10pm to collect five stamps: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu and Lapras. Get all five and you can encounter the special PokéXciting! Pikachu, with a location-specific background for your screenshot.

The rally runs until 11 September 2029, so there is no stress to finish it in one trip. After the 7 and 8 Nov weekend, PokéXciting! Pikachu keeps appearing in the wild around Singapore for a month, and Pokémon wearing party hats show up more often. Players can also look forward to Gigantamax battles with Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise, up to 40 players per battle. Good excuse to bring a few friends.

Parade & Stage Shows

This is the weekend we are looking forward to most. At Jewel Forest Valley, there is a parade featuring all 27 starter Pokémon from the games on 7 and 8 Nov.

The parade is free to watch, but you need a wristband to get in. Wristbands are handed out at Jewel 2 hours before each show, first come, first served, and the number is limited. Each parade runs about 30 minutes, at 3pm and 6pm on both days.

The holding area opens 1 hour before showtime at Level 1, East Canyon, near Ya Kun Kaya Toast. Queuing overnight is not allowed, so don’t bother camping out. Send one adult to collect the wristbands early if you can, and keep the kids happy with kaya toast while you wait.

Over at Terminal 3, PokéXciting! Pikachu is throwing an EDM dance party on 7 and 8 Nov at 4:30pm and 7:30pm. It’s free and open to all Pokémon lovers. Onsite registration opens 1 hour before showtime, so don’t turn up at the last minute.

Want a closer look at the characters? The Terminal 3 meet-and-greets are also on 7 and 8 Nov, at 12pm, 2pm, 8:30pm and 9:30pm, with Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. Check the timings against your parade slot so you don’t clash.

At Terminal 3 Departure Hall there is an Experience Zone with Nintendo Switch 2 games and free Trading Card Game trial sessions, and Jewel has a Trading Card Game quiz rally.

Pokémon Center at Jewel & Good to Know

Exclusive merchandise and promotions are at the Pokémon Center in Jewel, so if your child has been saving up some allowances, you have been warned.

It is free, but it is the airport and Jewel on a special weekend, so expect crowds on 7 and 8 Nov. Come early if you want the photo spots without a queue. For the parade, get your wristbands early. They are limited and go quickly. Changi keeps Christmas-themed Pokémon decorations up through the festive season.

Final Thoughts

We had a great time and the boys are already asking when the next trip is. It is free, easy to get to, and the kids actually get to be Pokémon trainers for an afternoon. We are definitely going back for the parade.

Which Pokémon are your kids hoping to spot?
